I Didn’t Know This Would Become My Work

If you had asked me years ago what I would be doing today, I’m pretty sure “Authenticity Amplifier™” would not have been on the list.

Mostly because the title is made up. 😂

But the work behind it? That has been part of me for a very long time.

I started my career in education. I was a teacher, administrator, and eventually a superintendent. Throughout those roles, I kept noticing the same thing.

People wanted to belong.

Students wanted to know they mattered. Teachers wanted to feel valued. Families wanted to be heard. Leaders wanted permission to admit they didn’t have all the answers.

And I became fascinated by what happened when people DID feel seen, heard, welcomed, and valued.

They showed up differently.

So did I.

Over time, I also started noticing all the ways we edit ourselves to belong.

We change how we speak. What we wear. Which parts of our identity we reveal. Which opinions we share. Sometimes we even change what we believe because fitting into the room feels safer than challenging it.

I know because I’ve done it too.

My own journey has included plenty of moments when I tried to become the version of Megan I thought a particular room wanted. The “right” leader. The “right” woman. The “right” professional. The version who checked the boxes and didn’t make anyone too uncomfortable.

Eventually, I started asking a different question:

What happens when we stop performing who we think we’re supposed to be and start understanding who we actually are?

THAT question changed everything.

It became the thread connecting my work around identity, bias, belonging, leadership, values, and eventually authenticity.

Today, I help people understand themselves more deeply so they can make choices that align with who they say they are and what they say they value.

But I didn’t wake up one morning and choose a niche.

I lived my way into it.

Every classroom, boardroom, uncomfortable conversation, mistake, identity I wrestled with, and person who trusted me with their story brought me here.

And I’m still learning.

Maybe that’s the part of my “niche” I love most.

I’m not standing on the other side telling people I figured it all out.

I’m standing beside them saying, “Let’s get curious about this together.”
